Belintani,Rafael; Garcia,Rodrigo Garófallo; Nääs,Irenilza de Alencar; Borille,Rodrigo; Sgavioli,Sarah; Caldara,Fabiana Ribeiro; Lima,Nilsa Duarte da Silva.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to identify the influence of climate pattern and rearing conditions on broiler carcass condemnations observed during processing. We evaluated the registered data of 2015 from the federal inspection files in all broiler slaughterhouses located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Midwestern Brazil. The percentages of condemnations by airsacculitis, cellulitis, dermatosis, ascites syndrome, total carcass condemnations, and average broiler weight at 42 days were analyzed. Data were associated with housing systems and season of the year in which each flock was reared. Two-way ANOVA was applied to the data in a completely randomized design 4×3 (four seasons and three houses) and compared by Tukey's test. The results indicated that the...

Cisticercose em animais abatidos em Sabáudia, Estado do Paraná Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Falavigna-Guilherme,A.L.; Silva,K.; Araújo,S. M.; Tobias,M.L.; Falavigna,D.L.M..
The aim of this work was to verify the occurrence of bovine and swine cysticercosis in animals slaughtered at the Abatedouro Municipal de Sabáudia, Paraná State. The number of daily-abated animals, the number of animals with cysticercus and the number and location of the cysticercus in the animals in a period of twelve months were collected. From 1046 swines slaughtered none showed cysticercus, but 36/out of 389 bovines (9.3%) were contaminated. Head was the most parasited region, followed by heart, tongue and liver. The absence of contamination observed in swines and the low contamination of the bovines reinforce the efficiency of the control measures accomplished in Paraná State.

Ferreira,Thais Sebastiana Porfida; Moreno,Andrea Micke; Almeida,Renata Rodrigues de; Gomes,Cleise Ribeiro; Gobbi,Debora Dirani Sena de; Filsner,Pedro Henrique Nogueira de Lima; Moreno,Marina.
Clostridium perfringens is an anaerobic Gram-positive bacterium known as common pathogen for humans, for domestic and wildlife animals. Although infections caused by C. perfringens type C and A in swine are well studied, just a few reports describe the genetic relationship among strains in the epidemiological chain of swine clostridioses, as well as the presence of the microorganism in the slaughterhouses. The aim of the present study was to isolate C. perfringens from feces and carcasses from swine slaughterhouses, characterize the strains in relation to the presence of enterotoxin, alpha, beta, epsilon, iota and beta-2 toxins genes, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and comparing strains by means of Pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE)....

Productive losses on broiler preslaughter operations: effects of the distance from farms to abattoirs and of lairage time in a climatized holding area R. Bras. Zootec.
Vieira,Frederico Márcio Corrêa; Silva,Iran José Oliveira da; Barbosa Filho,José Antonio Delfino; Vieira,Afrânio Márcio Corrêa.
This work aimed to assess the effects of preslaughter lairage time on the welfare and mortality of broilers transported in different farm-abattoir distances. It was evaluated 215 poultry transport trucks from a commercial poultry slaughterhouse from 2006 to 2007. Data were obtained from the holding area acclimatized through fans and water misting in the mornings, afternoons and at night. The thermal variables (temperature and relative humidity), distance, lairage time and density of birds per cage were considered in the analysis. The effects of distance and lairage time were important in the variation of rectal temperature of the animals and on the number of dead animals per truck. Two models were developed (mean and dispersion), for each response variable...

Thermal stress related with mortality rates on broilers' preslaughter operations: a lairage time effect study Ciência Rural
Vieira,Frederico Márcio Corrêa; Silva,Iran José Oliveira da; Barbosa Filho,José Antonio Delfino; Vieira,Afrânio Márcio Corrêa; Rodrigues-Sarnighausen,Valéria Cristina; Garcia,Danilo de Brito.
Concerning the reduction of preslaughter death losses, high temperature and relative humidity in the tropics are the major concerns regarding broiler survival prior slaughtering. However, the relationship between different lairage times under controlled environment and the thermal condition outside the holding area is still unclear. Thus, the aim of this study was to compare different intervals of lairage time with different environmental temperature and relationship with poultry mortality rates. A study was conducted in a commercial poultry abattoir in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in the year of 2006. The historical data set from 13,937 trucks, about broiler mortality during preslaughter operations, was given by the abattoir. Factors that influence the...

Thermographic Images to Measure Health Risks of Workers Exposed to Artificially Refrigerated Environments Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Takeda,F; Moro,A; Martins,N.
ABSTRACT Thermography generates high-resolution imagery in real time and is a non-invasive and painless technique devoid of physical contact or exposure to any type of radiation. This technique has been successfully applied to different areas, such as health- and safety-related applications, to control cold risk in workers exposed to low-temperature environments. Thus, this study aims to analyze skin temperature variations in three body parts of the upper limbs (fingers, the center of the hands and wrists on both the left and right sides of the body) caused by exposure to low temperatures in air-conditioned and artificially controlled work environments. The objective is to assess thermography’s adequacy in controlling workers’ health risks. This study used...
